In proud collaboration with EBMT, we have captured the highlights from the recent 52nd Annual Meeting, EBMT 2026. Below, hear from Dr Anna Sureda, President of EBMT, Dr Rafael Duarte, Congress President, and other world-leading experts sharing some of the most important research in transplant and cellular therapies.
Dr Anna Sureda • President, EBMT
“EBMT is more than a conference, it’s a global community dedicated to improving the outcome of our patients with blood cancers and serious disorders through collaboration, innovation and research”

Dr Rafael Duarte • Congress President
“We are witnessing extraordinary progress across our field; from advances in CAR-T and cellular therapies, to improvement in transplant strategies and patient care. Meetings like EBMT provide a platform to exchange ideas, challenge perspectives and translate research into clinical practice. By coming together as a multi-disciplinary community, we can move faster and further for the benefit of our patients.”
From microscope to machine learning: Scaling CAR-T monitoring with AI
During the Presidential Symposium, Dr Roni Shouval outlined a novel approach to scalable, real-time immune monitoring after CAR-T therapy. Using high-throughput deep learning applied to routine blood smears, his team transforms a traditional tool into a quantitative platform for tracking immune dynamics, with potential to enhance clinical insight and guide future care.

Advancing gene therapy in primary immunodeficiencies
Prof Claire Booth summarizes her plenary session on gene therapy in primary immunodeficiencies – a field that is rapidly shifting from experimental promise to clinical reality. In this interview, she reflects on the field’s most important milestones, how gene therapy compares with allogeneic transplantation, and the critical challenge of ensuring patients can actually access these transformative treatments.

Gut instinct: MAAT013 offers new hope for ruxolitinib GvHD patients
Prof Florent Malard summarizes the key points from the final phase III ARES data on MAAT013 for ruxolitinib-refractory gastrointestinal GvHD, demonstrating how microbiome restoration may offer a novel immunomodulatory third-line treatment option in a setting with limited therapies and poor outcomes.

PERSEUS: Quadruplet therapy reinforces a new standard in frontline myeloma
Meral Beksac discusses phase III PERSEUS data showing that adding daratumumab to VRd induction and consolidation, followed by daratumumab–lenalidomide maintenance, significantly improves sustained MRD negativity and progression-free survival, supporting quadruplet therapy as the new standard in transplant-eligible newly diagnosed multiple myeloma.

PRIOH: Pritelivir outperforms standard therapy in refractory HSV
Refractory herpes simplex virus infection remains a persistent and often debilitating complication in immunocompromised patients, particularly following transplantation. Dr Genovefa Papanicolaou summarizes the take-home messages from the phase III PRIOH-1 data showing that pritelivir is effective and safe for acyclovir-resistant HSV, offering a promising new oral treatment for immunocompromised patients, particularly following transplantation.

EBMT is a community of healthcare professionals, involved in clinical haematopoietic cell transplantation and cellular therapy, who share their experiences and develop co-operative studies. EBMT has a governing body called the Board of Association and three sets of groups that channel the society’s research aims and other activities: EBMT Working Parties, Committees, and Nurses Group, which addresses issues within the field specifically related to nursing.
